CB was unemployed for a year, and as she was dyslexic she found the process of looking for work hard. Her self esteem was suffering, and her depression started. She finally managed to get a job as a learning support assistant, which she enjoyed but when she saw the children having similar problems to her own at school, she got dizzy and felt sick with the pressure. She applied to be a teacher to try and find the right solution, but wasn’t able to pass her exams. The anxiety started to affect her everyday life.
At this point one of her friends was seeing a Prince’s Trust advisor, and mentioned to her that self employment may be a good route. CB didn’t believe that she had the ability to set up her own business, and didn’t think that people would take her seriously.
However, she finally got in touch with a Prince’s Trust advisor, and was surprised by how encouraging he was and that he took her idea seriously. He offered support, and made her believe that her business to work. He broke the business plan into achievable chunks and her confidence grew.
CB has received financial and business support from the Prince’s Trust. She has learnt marketing skills, and working at her customer relation skills, to have more confidence in herself and in her product.
CB creates bespoke and individually crafted jewellery in silver and gold, which she sells at a local market. Unlike other most jewellers in London, she is now making enough money from her business to support herself without having another job.
